Design of Electrical Machines

About the Subject :

Electrical system design is the design of electrical systems. This can be as simple as a flashlight cell connected through two wires to a light bulb or as involved as the space shuttle. Electrical systems are groups of electrical components connected to carry out some operation. Often the systems are combined with other systems. They might be subsystems of larger systems and have subsystems of their own.

Topics to be covered in this Seminar :

Major considerations in Electrical Machine Design– Space factor –Thermal considerations – Heat flow – Rating of machines – Standard specifications–DC Machine –Carter’s Coefficient – Net length of Iron  – Design of Armature – Design of commutator and brushes –performance prediction using design values–Transformers –kVA output for single and three phase transformers –Temperature rise in Transformers – Design of Tank – Methods of cooling of Transformers–Induction motor–Rules for selecting rotor slots of squirrel cage machines – Design of rotor bars & slots –Design of end rings – Design of wound rotor – Magnetic leakage calculations – Leakage reactance of polyphase machines- Magnetizing current - Short circuit current – Operating characteristics–Losses and Efficiency–Synchronous machines–Short circuit ratio – shape of pole face – Armature design – Armature parameters –Design of rotor and damper winding – Determination of full load field mmf –Design of field winding – Design of turbo alternators – Rotor design.
